NON SO COMPLETES FITZ DOUBLE

Non So made it a double for Henderson and Fitzgerald as he cruised to victory in the Racing Post Plate (formerly the Mildmay Of Flete) at the rewarding odds of 14-1.

Stablemate Saintsaire gallantly tried to make all before falling at the last when booked for third.

But Fitzgerald never had to get serious with his mount as he passed the post nine lengths clear of 50-1 shot Kelrev, with Graphic Approach (11-1) a further seven away in third and 33-1 outsider Roman Ark fourth.

Saintsaire made sure that all the doubtful stayers in the field would be found out and none of the fancied runners ever got competitive.

The favourite Ross River fell a mile out and Napolitain and Billyvoddan always seemed to be going half a stride too quick.

As Saintsaire began to tire turning in to the straight, Non So made ground effortlessly and two economical leaps and the final two fences sealed a well-deserved victory for a horse who has thrown away winning opportunities in the past with some dodgy jumping.

"All three of mine in there have run great races," Henderson said. "With the blinkers on Saintsaire probably didn't need two miles and five furlongs and Chauvinist has run well as well.

"But I trust Mick and he chose the right one, which was brilliant."

Fitzgerald was full of praise for the horse.

"I was never too worried with Saintsaire out on his own because I knew what I had underneath me. I didn't want to chase him as I knew he would come back to me.

"He's a very good horse, we've always thought that but he has just been very unlucky. He should have won here last year when he fell at the third-last and he fell when he would have won a good prize at Windsor.

"He's a much more mature horse now but it has just taken him time to recover from the falls.

"Nicky has proved yet again what a great trainer he is and his horses are always primed to run well here."
