KADOUN LANDS PERTEMPS SHOCK

Owner JP McManus landed his second race of the day when the unconsidered Kadoun took the finale, the Pertemps Final at the rewarding odds of 50-1 for trainer Michael O'Brien and jockey Tom Ryan.

However, there were mixed fortunes for McManus when Olaso, running in his first colours and ridden by McCoy, had to be destroyed.

Kadoun was chased all the way to the line by Hordago (10-1), also trained in Ireland by Eric McNamara, with Oodachee (10-1) third and Liberman (20-1) running on into fourth.

As usual there were plenty in with chances as the horses streamed into the straight including previous winners Freetown, Inching Closer and Oulart.

But none could match the finishing kick produced by O'Brien's runner and it was a fine effort under the welter-burden of 11st 10lb.

"It's definitely been a mixed day for me," McManus said.

"But that's racing I suppose. I had the first winner, Baracouda got beat, I've lost a nice young horse but also had the winner of the last.

"It's been a hard day and I just feel sorry for the lass who looks after Olaso.

"It's good to win the race but it's tinged with sadness.

"The only thing I can put his improvement in form down to is that he is with a very good trainer."

Jockey O'Ryan also hailed the skills of the trainer.

"Since I've been riding the horse he has never felt better," he said. "He travelled great and I think the reason he has bounced back to his best is Michael O'Brien.

"We didn't go a fast pace which has probably helped me and I was able to take it up at the last and pull away."
