MAYO SPRINGS FOXHUNTERS SHOCK

Whyso Mayo gave the Irish another winner at meeting when taking the Christie's Foxhunter Chase Challenge Cup.

The 20-1 chance, trained by Ray Hurley, hit the front running down the hill towards the turn for home and found more for pressure over the last to hold the challenge of First Down Jets by a length.

Joe Blake was another length and a quarter away in third but 11-4 favourite Harbour Pilot finished out of the money.

Despite making a bad mistake on the first circuit, which Nina Carberry incredibly well to survive, the 11-year-old was under pressure on the second lap and dropped away tamely.

Hurley, enjoying his first Festival winner with his first runner at the meeting, said: "This is my third season with this horse and he has been a little superstar since day one.

"The first time I rode him the feel he gave me I knew there was a big race in him.

"This race has been the plan and I am not surprised he won and we had a good few quid on him.

"He's not entered at Aintree but he will probably go to Punchestown."
